ABOUT THE AJRHL
The Average Joe's Rec Hockey League is a non-profit men's recreational hockey league based out of Medicine Hat, Alberta. The 2025-26 league consists of 14 teams. The season begins in October and goes right until the end of February. The AJRHL plays out of the Hockey Hounds, Kinplex and Moose rinks in Medicine Hat.
The 2025-26 season is the league's 26th year in operation.
LEAGUE RULES
• No alcohol on benches. No exceptions, zero tolerance.
• No slap shots.
• No fighting. Suspensions will be handed out and will be lengthy.
• No redline and no touch icing.
• Game length is 3 x 20 minute running time periods with a 10 minute warm up and 2.5 minute break between periods.
• Penalties are 3 minutes running time and start once the puck is dropped.
• Current NHL rules apply (e.g. if a player shoots the puck out of their own zone over the glass, it will result in a penalty).
• Clean up and leave the dressing rooms how you found them. Do not leave cans, tape or garbage lying around.
• Any abuse (verbal or physical) of the referees or rink staff will not be tolerated. Suspensions will be issued.
• Any fines or punishments levied to your team are final. If a player is suspended, they are suspended from attending the game as well. Attendance will result in an automatic loss of game(s) with additional punishment issued.
